If you have a short enough period of time to come to Paraguay, it is probably because you are coming from a neighbouring country, Bolivia, Brazil or Argentina. You can visit the ruins of the Jesuit World Heritage Missions near Encarnación, as well as Asunción and its region, which boasts picturesque colonial villages and beautiful natural sites. A short stay in an estancia will certainly change your scenery. The most convenient way is to rent a car to explore the surroundings of Asunción and travel by bus for long trips (which can be done at night to save time).
